1) The Dry Working Stage:
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor stands apart from all other watercolors
because it offers the artist both wet and dry working stages. D'UVA
Erasable Watercolor contains no gum or other air hardening binders
and is non-staining. While it flows and works like watercolor when
wet D'UVA Erasable Watercolor becomes, in essence, pastel dust
when dry. During this dry stage the artist may not only erase areas
completely but may lighten areas that are too dark without removing
them, feather or soften an edge or blend whole areas as with pastel.
If wet paint is applied before heat fixing D'UVA Erasable Watercolor
will re- wet as would a traditional watercolor paint. During this
dry stage D'UVA Erasable Watercolor will appear chalky and lose
its transparency, this will then return when the material is heat
fixed
2) Layering - No More Mud:
Watercolor is based on making a series of stains. But what if you
make a stain or achieve an effect early in the painting, but the
area in question still needs more color or isn't dark enough? With
traditional watercolor any addition of paint will redissolve this
area and it will be lost. But with D'UVA Erasable Watercolor you
may heat fix the area, and then add an additional layer without
affecting you previous work! Once heat fixed D'UVA Erasable Watercolor
is not soluble in water, additional layers may therefore be applied
without changing or dissolving previous layers which have been
heat set. D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be layered and heat fixed
as many times as you want.
3) No Mistakes:
Because traditional watercolor is based on staining the paper it
is very difficult if not impossible to correct something once it
is down. Many artists have spent years learning to make their mistakes
look like they were supposed to be there. Now there is no need
to do this, because D'UVA Erasable Watercolor offers the dry working
stage where any given area may be removed or altered without affecting
the whole. It is impossible to make a mistake in the first place!
Be sure that paper is completely dry before attempting to erase.
Attempting to erase while wet will result in smearing or tearing
of the paper. Use a lightweight sized paper to maximize erasability.
Clayboard will provide the best erasability.
4) Clean Up:
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor makes clean up a breeze. Clean up with
water and a little dish soap. D'UVA Erasable Watercolor is non-toxic
and non air hardening making it safe to wash down the sink. D'UVA
Erasable Watercolor will wash right off of clothes and off furniture,
tables walls etc. The sole exception to this is soft vinyl surfaces
such as the covering on a card table or car seats. To remove D'UVA
Erasable Watercolor from these surfaces wipe gently with a cloth
and lighter fluid for a refillable cigarette lighter.
5) Won't Ruin Brushes / No Waste:
Never ruin another set of brushes! Because D'UVA Erasable Watercolor
doesn't contain any air hardening binders it cannot harden your
brushes. When D'UVA Erasable Watercolor dries it turns into a fine
powder which may be shaken out or rinsed off. This is true for
airbrushes too. For this same reason you need not worry about wasting
your paint by letting it dry. If D'UVA Erasable Watercolor dries
in the bottle you may reconstitute it by adding D'UVA Erasable
Watercolor Solution (or rubbing alcohol). Let D'UVA Erasable Watercolor
Dry on your watercolor pallet in between working sessions and simply
re-wet at the beginning of the next session.
6) ChromaCoal May Be Used As A Watercolor Pastel:
ChromaCoal - The Heat Fixable Pastel- may be used as a watercolor
pastel, either by itself or in conjunction with D'UVA Erasable
Watercolor. Simply brush through the pastel with D'UVA Erasable
Watercolor solution and it will flow out into suspension.
7) Not Just For Watercolor - Other Applications:
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor will adhere to any surface that may be
heated to 225F, such as wood, metal, glass, fabric, ceramics etc.,
not just paper, making it an all purpose heat fixable paint.
8) Correctable Fabric Paint:
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be used on all grades of fabric. Because
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor is non-staining and non air hardening
it may be rinsed out at any time prior to heat fixing. Once fixed
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor is not soluble in water or mineral spirits.
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be painted directly onto fabric from
the bottle or thinned with D'UVA Erasable Watercolor Solution.
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be used to dye fabric by dipping
or by dripping onto bunched wet fabric. D'UVA Erasable Watercolor
may be used on any fabric that may be safely heated to the fixing
temperature. Heat fixing of fabrics is best done with a clothes
iron on the 'cotton' setting with no steam. Use a cover sheet of
parchment and fix areas for about 30 seconds each. Because not
all irons get as hot it is best heat your fabric in the oven at
265F for five minutes to ensure thorough fixing. Loosely gather
the fabric after the paint is dry and place on tinfoil or parchment
paper.
9) Marbling Solution (with plain tap water):
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be used to marble by dripping it onto
plain tap water. Because D'UVA Erasable Watercolor is mixed throughout
with a dry acrylic binder (plastic dust) it floats on water. All
of the colors are cross mixable prior to dripping on the water.
Once on the surface of the water the colors do not mix but rather
butt up against one- another creating hard edges. Colors on the
water may be combed together by drawing thorough them with a pencil
or the back of a paint brush. Avoid dripping the paint from a great
height, rather hold the eye-dropper close to the water and place
the drops onto the water. You will notice the paint spreading out
as you place it on the water, once the paint stops spreading a
maximum density is achieved. Surfaces to be marbled must be completely
dry. Plain water may be used as a resist, paint with water on your
paper before dipping and the area will come out white (paper color).
Surfaces or objects may be laid flat on the water or dipped through.
The same water may be re-loaded with paint multiple times, but
will eventually become dirty and need to be changed with fresh
water.
10) Rubber Stamping:
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be used to rubber stamp. Drip some
paint out onto a flat non-absorbent surface such as a plastic dinner
plate. Mix with D'UVA Erasable Watercolor Solution to create a
thinner consistency as necessary. You may also brush D'UVA Erasable
Watercolor directly onto the rubber stamp. Rubber stamps made with
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor will have all of the advantages offered
by the dry working stage prior to heat fixing.
11) Erasable Airbrush Paint:
D'UVA Erasable Watercolor may be used in an airbrush. Thin with D'UVA
Erasable Watercolor Solution as needed to achieve the desired flow.
Paintings made with D'UVA Erasable Watercolor will have all the
advantages of the dry working stage prior to heat fixing.
